Matthew is currently working at the Canadian Forest Service as a Forest Fire Modeling Specialist on the WildFireSat team. In his role, Matthew helps to implement, test, and refine models of fire monitoring, detection, and spread. Matthew earned a Master of Forest Conservation degree from the University of Toronto in 2018 and completed his capstone project โ€“ Enhancements of a Daily Airtanker Deployment Decision Support System โ€“ at the Firelab under the supervision of Dr. David Martell. Matthew subsequently worked on improving fire occurrence prediction models for the Province of Alberta under Dr. Mike Wotton, among other projects related to processing of remotely sensed data. The experiences and collaborations at the Firelab set Matthew on a path of learning and contributing toward the solving of problems in forest fire management, using tools from computer science.
